Competitions

Kang Han Ravenshead attend Poomsae competitions with the wider Kang Han family as a team. Students can only only be selected by the head coach of their respective club or the Kang Han Poomsae coach (Master Laura). Categories for competition comprise of K3 (yellow tag -green tag), K2 (green belt - red tag), K1 (red belt - black tag) and Dan/Poom (black belt) categories, there are compulsory Poomsae that must be performed in each category, so a knowledge and understanding of Poomsae for their grade is essential.

Important changes in administration and payment methods for competition entries in 2025

The competition team will be entered into tournaments agreed by the coaching team on release. The information pack will then be emailed out to athletes or parents/carers of athletes under 18. An emailed response will then be required if you DO NOT want to participate in the event and the athlete will be removed from registration before teams and pairs can be arranged. Where teams and pairs cannot be made within our club, we will often collaborate with other clubs from around the country this means that teams and pairs will often meet for the first time on the day of the competition, causing limited preparation time, that said we have many successful regular collaborations with other teams who have grown to become part of our wider Taekwondo family.

All payments MUST be made digitally, and a payment link will be sent by email with a deadline as soon as the competitors categories are finalised. If payment has not been sent by the deadline given, athletes will be removed from the system and will not be able to compete.

All athletes MUST have an up-to-date British Taekwondo licence to compete. It is the responsibility of athletes or parents/carers of athletes under 18 to ensure this is in place. Failed audits for licences after the closing date of a tournament result in removal from the system and loss of fees paid. This process is carried out by the tournament organisers.

Athletes competing for Team Kang Han or regional or elite GB teams abroad at G1/2 events will also need an up-to-date GAL licence to enter. The coaching team can help with this to anyone new to these events.

We are hoping these new processes will mean better communication on events such as locations and costs for entry and spectators and will ensure that athletes are entered, paid for and audited successfully for a smooth start to tournament days.

We thank you for your continued support of your athletes, the coaches and the wider Kang Han family.

Competition Methods
There are 4 different methods of competition, however the side by side elimination system and the cut off systen are the most frequently used, with the side by side elimination system beginning to be used more
often in domestic competitions for K1 and Dan categories.

Side by side elimination: Participants will be drawn to play off against one another, for each match 2 participants will compete side by side and will be scored at the same time, each performing 2 Poomsae with a break in between after final scores have been declared the winner will progress to the next round while the loser will be eliminated winners from previous rounds will then play against each other until only one competitor remains and will be the winner of first place.

Cut off system:  Contestants will perform 2 assigned compulsory Poomsae and the top four contestants will be awarded prizes. Each entry will be scored separately. Categories of 8 entries or less will play straight from the final round, categories of up to 19 participants will start from the semi final round, when the number of contestants reaches over 20 there will be a preliminary round also.

Scoring Criteria: scoring is made in accordance with the rules of World Taekwondo
